Lane Brafford :: Bio

Lane BraffordI graduated from University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a BCA in Visual Arts. An interdisiplinary program that exposed me to weird theater people. You know the ones. Singing in the corridors and repeating things to each other in different voices on the stairs. Weird. I was too busy cultivating my artist brood, digging various media from under my nails, to pay them much mind. Yet they intrigued me. So free. So full of life. It was only a matter of time before they had me. Like pod people.

More than twenty years I skirted theater’s atmosphere orbiting just out of it’s gravitational grasp. Designing ads and showcards for the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, programs and websites for regional theater companies. I was so close; back stage access, cast party photo shoots, stacks of autographed memorabilia.

Several years ago I refashioned a piece of prose into a play. Seeing characters I’d been writing all my life come alive on stage sucked me into the theater vortex. I’m hooked. The weird theater people have me at last. I am one of them. What do you know? My nails are finally clean.
